OUR STORY

Ridgeway Butchery was founded by Harry and Maria Joannou in November 1964. Fifty years on, the butchery is still a family run business that prides itself on quality service and products. John Joannou, their son, finished his degree and joined the business to add a new dimension and generation to the business. Harry and Maria are still actively involved in the business 50 years after committing to establishing the top butchery in Johannesburg – an incredible achievement in this world of changing brands and the emergence of big businesses. 

 

The original site for the butcher was on the northern side of the current shopping centre and was incredibly small – about 70Sqm. In March 1998, Ridgeway Butchery moved into the new premises which were larger and much more modern. Over the years, Ridgeway Butchery has supplied a number of Johannesburg's top coffee shops and restaurants as well as some of Johannesburg's best entertainment spots.

 

Ridgeway Butchery has also won a number of awards over the years and have become renowned across South Africa for their secret recipe Boerewors - the Special and Chili Boerewors.

OUR COMMITMENT

Our commitment is to continue the rich tradition of quality and service and to consolidate our reputation of being one of the top butcheries in the South and in Gauteng. Harry and Maria Joannou set out to build a business and a legacy and they certainly succeeded in doing this. John has large shoes to fill but his track record suggests that he will continue to take Ridgeway Butchery to new heights and make it an everlasting brand!
